Restorative yoga
A slow, gentle practice designed to release the body deeply and calm the nervous system.

The practice
What this class involves
Restorative yoga is not after maximum stretch or performance. It is after alignment, comfort and stillness — the three conditions that let the body genuinely recover.
The practice rests on simple postures held for a long time, from 3 to 20 minutes, almost always supported by props: bolsters, blocks, blankets, a chair. The support does the work instead of the muscles, which no longer have any reason to hold on.
Through full, conscious breathing, the session helps release the deep muscles, let go of emotional tension and bring the body back into balance. It is the nervous system that shifts state, not only the muscles.
Benefits
What the class works on
- The nervous systemLong, supported postures trigger the parasympathetic response: a slower heart rate, fuller breathing, a steadier mind.
- RecoveryIdeal after a heavy training load, a demanding week, jet lag or a long stretch of stress.
- SleepPractised regularly at the end of the day, it helps you fall asleep and improves deep sleep.
- Releasing tensionThe areas that hold on permanently — neck, jaw, diaphragm, psoas — finally find a position where they have nothing left to carry.
Structure
How a session unfolds
- Setting up
Adjusting the props to your build: bolster height, blanket thickness, block angle. Nothing should pull.
- Breathing
A few minutes to slow and lengthen the breath, until the exhale becomes longer than the inhale.
- Long holds
Four to six postures held for 3 to 20 minutes, with regular adjustments so that stillness stays comfortable.
- Coming back
A gradual exit and a closing savasana: the body registers the state it has reached before moving again.
Who it is for

Chronic fatigue, stress, insomnia, convalescence, pregnancy (with adaptations), athletes in a recovery phase, and anyone who thinks they are "not flexible": here, that is not the point.
